– ABOUT THE PLAY –

Midnight in Vermont revolves around the untimely death of the rock singer Virgil Dane in 1983, former leader of a popular seventies’ band, The Midnight Rides. Present day, Virgil’s aunt has gathered his former bandmates and associates in her Vermont home to follow up on suspicions that her nephew’s death was no accident—but possible murder.

The suspects are a varied and unconventional lot, comprising a cast of 14 actors of varying ages, genders, and time commitments. Rehearsals will begin in late September up until the performance weekends of November 7-8 and 14-16.

Written by Michael Nethercott, who will also direct, Midnight in Vermont is a traditional whodunnit in the vein of Agatha Christie. It’s the first full-length mystery play by written a Vermont playwright, and will have its premiere with Rock River Players.

Nethercott is an accomplished area playwright, director, and the author of two suspense novels. His stories have appeared in numerous periodicals including Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine, Terrifying Ghosts, and Best Crime and Mystery Stories of the Year.

If you are interested but cannot make the August 2nd audition, feel free to email Michael to see if another time can be arranged (or with any other related questions).
